Sustainabl Twin Ports Sustainable Twin Ports

Sustainable Twin Ports

Sustainable Twin Ports is dedicated to furthering economic, environmental & social sustainability in the western Lake Superior region through education, networking and action. Community – Environment – Economy – We believe everyone in the twin ports of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI value the health of all three. Sustainable Twin Ports has decided to move from belief to action by teaching our neighbors, businesses and public entities how to take meaningful steps toward sustainability. We all make hundreds of decisions every day, all day long. While most of us consider the economic side, few stop long enough to consider the effects of those decisions on the Environment, or on other people. By working together, we can create transformational change toward a healthier community, a healthier environment and a healthier bottom line.

Friends of the BWCAW:

Leading the effort to protect and restore the BWCAW from adverse environmental threats is the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. The Friends’’ mission is to protect, preserve and restore the wilderness character of the BWCAW and the Quetico-Superior Ecosystem. The organization formed in 1976 to protect this vulnerable area and two years later shepherded legislation through Congress that brought full protection to the Boundary Waters. Today, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based organization of 4,000 members is a sentry against further harm in the BWCAW and the Quetico-Superior Ecosystem. Their current fight against the threat of sulfide mining that could adversely affect not only the BWCAW but areas in the watershed extending to Duluth, Lake Superior and beyond is crucial to support.

COGGS (Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores):

COGGS (Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores) has been improving the cycling opportunities for citizens of the Duluth, Minnesota area since 1994. Its focus is now a project named the Duluth Traverse, which will be a 100 mile long multi-use, singletrack trail that is purpose-built for mountain biking and other human powered travel. When finished, it will span the entire 26 miles of the City of Duluth and be the longest urban multi-use trail in the nation.

In 2014, Loll selected COGGS as its largest single beneficiary of the 2013 1% donation. Loll’s donation helped equip the COGGS Trail Crew with a skilled workforce and professional-grade equipment, thus assuring that the investment in the Duluth Traverse Trail System will be preserved and see steady progress for years to come.
