WindSense Loll is excited to be enrolled with our local power company in developing renewable energy. Minnesota Power offers customers the opportunity to buy electricity that is wind-generated by subscribing for blocks of wind energy for a surcharge. Minnesota Power has purchased half of the output of wind generation from Great River Energy, who has contracted for construction and operation of three 660-kilowatt windmill turbines at the Chandler Hills Wind Farm in southwestern Minnesota. It will be transmitted from there to Minnesota Power lines over lines owned by Xcel. Minnesota Power’s WindSense program will only grow in part due to Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. On February 22, 2007 Pawlenty signed into law a renewable energy requirement for 25% of the electricity produced by the state’s utilities to come from renewables by 2025. |
